First pic is primed laundry room second is painted, third and fourth are sponged with ceiling textured.
Randy has wired our room, the living room and kitchen now. Blake has started to prime the laundry and I did the other half. Wyatt and I painted the laundry room and I textured the ceiling in there. Last night, I sponged the dark color on it then today I stained the molding and then polyed it and later during the day Randy installed it and then added the washer, dryer and hot water heater. This room is now complete! Except for the staining of the logs which has to wait another 3 weeks so the chink can cure all the way. I have all the phone lines connected main line works others don't grrrrrrr...I have to re-check that.

OK now we have puttied the laundry room and guest bath twice, today I did the third and final layer so I can sand it and start painting tomorrow. Randy has installed the light/vent in the master bath and Blake installed the insulation in it. I laid the ceramic tile in the guest bath and shall grout it soon. All inside chinking in both guest bath and laundry is complete...Looks great huh!

FINALLY I have finished the outside chinking!!! Now to get to work on the inside...We have installed insulation, ceilings and sheet rock in the laundry room and guest bath. We started the puttying to hide the screws, and shall paint room as we finish it so we can start on a new one. I also chinked most of the inside laundry room...look close it looks great.....have to wait 30 days to stain inside logs.

Aaron puttying guest bath.
Laundry room chinked

guest bath lights installed without the globes for now

Wyatt and
Blake installing insulation
Now I am finished laying and grouting both the guest bath and the laundry room. Randy has finished wiring the laundry room and Aaron's room and started the guest bath. Alabama power is coming by to hookup the power soon so they said. I am working on the last wall of chinking....i swear it seems to never end! We have finished tying in to the water line from the main line and am ready to turn it on soon as we get all the water fixtures installed. Boys each had a chance to drive the lil termite tractor and help with the water line. They were in heaven. Randy busted a water line so we had a lil set back from that but its all done now.

Finally we have the the electricity started. We had Michael Kirkland of Kirkland Electric ( 256-357-0159 or 256-493-2499) in Wedowee come by and install the inside panel and the outside meter. I hated that we had to put the meter on the logs, but better than making a hole in the roof. We decided to go underground with the power so we didn't have to touch the roof. Really looks good on the logs...lol...panel box is installed in our room closet. Still have a lil wiring to do but its getting there. Alabama power will be here next week to hook-up the power. I started laying the tile in the laundry room and the guest bath. Both are same color tile but different grout. This tile was made here in Randolph County and is not all that perfect but not bad at all really. Was well worth the price, because we have been shopping and some of the stuff out there today is so thin its scary to think about using. We also have started adding the blue board insulation to the inside of the gable ends. We are double insulating these 2 walls. Then will add the sheet rock to the top of that. You can see in the last pic that the walls will have the pink insulation. Looking up eh?

I know I know...When am I gonna update this blog....I have had many calls about this, glad to see everyone is watching me. Makes me work more...lol...Well I have finished three sides of the chinking. Yay! Finally...then ran out of chink so I had ordered more but its been way to cold to do it. It doesn't adhere to the logs in 20 degree weather....sigh....and the rain just WONT go away no matter how much I sing...lol...sorry bout that God I love the rain you send...just not when I need to work...also I had another trip to take to SC. Aaron finally graduated from his AIT ( Advanced Individual Training ), and is now home. Maybe I can get some work out of him soon...lol...Wyatt, Blake, and I have insulated the upstairs ceilings and closets and finished putting the base flooring . Soon I hope to get all the wiring finished and hooked up so I can work at night with out those dreadful Lil plug up lights. To many cords to trip over....and you know how graceful I am right?....lol...Tonight it's 28 degrees and suppose to be in the upper 40's tomorrow. So if no rain we can chink, after we get back from bring Aaron to the Army to update his paperwork from his graduation completion.I'm two pics from graduation. I love this pic...they look like the Mob Squad...remember that OLD show....telling my age eh? This is the house on the three sides that the chinking is completed. Hard to see I know but look back at some of the older pics....there is a difference. Chat later all....smooches

Well it is 3 years now since we first broke ground. Its still a lil ways away from moving in but its close. Only 1 year ago did we start to put up the logs so we doing great as far as time . But it seems like 10 years almost to me...LOL...Nathan stopped by the other day and I put his tail to work..LOL...Not for long tho, but he did help a lot...Thanks Nate we love ya! With his help we were able to lay the floor in the 3 upstairs closets, which are the full length of the house and about 6 Ft wide. We have had a lot of lil nit picking things to do that don't really show on pics so we have been working, just can't tell...LOL...Like cleaning the dust and pollen off the logs, inside and out, so I could chink. Adds up fast I tell ya! We worked thru the holidays even tho everyone but me took off Christmas day, just had to do something. I feel like we take to much time off. Aaron came in for Christmas and New Years, but he wasn't to much help. Had to much fun with his friends. School starts tomorrow...ugggg...So work will slow down a lil but I shall still work a lil each day. I want in this house! NOW!...LOL...heres a few pics...First pic is of closets, we have no dividers in them yet...They will be big closets....2nd is upstairs before we put the door wall up...3rd is with door wall....Their room is 11 X 14...and then upstairs foyer is about 8 X 10...It divides the bedrooms and has the stairway also.

we have a sheet of plyboard over the stairwell so we can work with out worry stairwell is where red cord is...

WOW...I didn't realize how long it had been since I updated my blog. I have been working on the house but not everyday. We took off for 1 1/2 weeks to go to South Carolina for Aaron's graduation from basic training during the first part of November, then we took off a week for Thanksgiving to travel to Mississippi to be with Randy. We get back home to everyone sick for a few days. Well you know that since we took off so long as soon as we ready to work the rain shows up! Rained all first week of December, then we did little things as we could because it was way to cold to chink, was in the mid teens a few nights...brrrrrrrrrrrrrr. We finished our last window finally! Then you might be able to see in the pics above the top log on the two long sides was open right below the roof....We now have it all closed in and, some of it weatherized already. We now have about 3/4 of the house chinked and hope to finished that soon. All this new stuff done really didn't change the house much as far as looking at the pics. We did however finally get the boards from the saw mill to finish the gable end that we never completed...Till now that is. Pics in order are back of house where last window was installed...Kit side...Laundry side....Front of house...Open area...Our Christmas tree....LOL..Thought I'd throw that one in there...Hope to work a lot more next few days because I go back to work on Wednesday. Harder to work on house and get much done. Will try to upload more pics as I get them.

Now we have started chinking on the other side of the house. Its not done yet but getting there. Randy and kids have framed and installed the last door. We only have a deadbolt on one, so we are able to lock it. You would be surprised at the people that come up this hill when we are gone to browse thru the house. Knobs and other deadbolts will be installed soon. Upstairs is now ready for electrcity! Also recieved Aaron's basic training pic yesterday so I added it here. I added his rank and name with the frame also. Aint he cute!

OK while I was down for 2 weeks trying NOT to get on a ladder...LOL...I re-did this very old kitchen flour cabinet ( this has a built in flour sifter and below has a metal drawer that has a metal cover awesome) I purchased it from someone near here for twenty bucks...As you can see when you look at the pics, its all taken apart, painted many different colors, and was even stored in two different locations when I bought it....My kids thought I was CRAZY! LOL I on the other hand saw how beautiful I could make it. It had layers upon layers of paint, top was black and red, under that was yellow, under that was white, with a thick layer of varnish, under that was white milk stain, drawers were yellow. Now all of it came off with a lot of elbow grease I might add, EXCEPT some of the white milk stain...But, that makes it look even older now. I then stained it with a warm pecan stain and added a satin finish. I also had to strip the counter top ( this is a slideable top, it slides forward to make biscuits I guess)it had some kind of vinyl and it had something like tar paper under it, was very hard to get it all off but then under that was glue that wouldn't budge sooooooooo beings it couldn't be removed I added a checker board style layer of ceramic tile. These tiles were made in a near by factory in the town of Roanoke quiet a few years ago, the factory has been shut down since I lived here for sure and that's eight years this Nov. I bought this about 7 years ago, and have enough to do the kitchen counter....I'm thinking about doing it. Periwinkle blue and beige, not to modern but hey neither am I....LOL ...Let me hear your feedback on this!

Well, yesterday was going pretty well. I did all but the last row of chinking on the one side. I was standing on the ladder about 6 Ft in the air, when the ladder started to fall backwards. I had my hands full of the EXPENSIVE chink loaded in the gun, but I let it all fall and I went with it. Good thing Wyatt was walking by. He tried to help catch me...haha I would smashed him like a bug, but he did break my fall. I thought I broke my foot and thigh, after I regained my composer and got over the initial shock of falling, I as hardheaded as I am ( its an Allemand birth right ) decided to call it a day and sleep on my wounds before going to the Dr. I tell you it scared me very much and was like in slow motion. Actually I think I scared Wyatt more than falling scared me. Blake had set the ladder up for me and I climbed right up before I even checked, and he had set it up backwards. I never noticed till I got to the top, then it was to late. That ladder is history at this house, its been a thorn in my side since we started using it, its one of those folding in different directions, all in one ladders. It's GONE!
UPDATE....Went to the Dr today( day after fall ), he said nothing was broken, just sprang and a possible torn/pulled muscle in my thigh. Have to stay off ladder now ( can't believe people think im to old for a ladder...Sigh...LOL ), Dr's orders...and Kelly's...LOL....Have to take a few days off to heal, but will be back to work soon enough. Heres a pic of the chinked side, well all but the top row is chinked...Looking good huh?

Monday, October 02, 2006

Well finally! We started chinking! Randy and Nathan (teach him to stop by for an announced visit...LOL...J/k) worked on cutting out framing and installing the frame on the last kitchen window, then the next weekend I started chinking. Wyatt and Blake helped of course, but it takes a lot of patience and a steady hand. Can't waste it, cost way to much to waste. You have to look really close to see the backer rod put in between the logs, then you add the chinking. After that you sponge it to make sure it adheres to the logs. I sprayed the foam insulation that grows to fill spaces in the large spots in the corners, then had to cover it with tape so that the chink wouldn't stick to it and peel from the logs. The picture where its just a close up of the logs. That's the finished chinking. In the pictures roof looks silver but its actually beige, the same colors as the windows. Tarp is up because we still not finish painting windows and staining logs. Hope to have that down by Tuesday evening.
